Alba engineers have been involved in extremely challenging engineering and management roles. Over the past 3 years we have worked successfully on Fleet Critical Projects including;
Hunterston B & Hinkley Point B Boiler Recovery Programme.
2007 saw the start of a 3 year programme of Forced and Planned Outages to inspect and recover essential surface area in every boiler across the 4 reactors. Alba’s Senior Project Engineer was responsible for management of one of the two 12 hour shifts, 7 days a week, during the outages and preparation periods.This work was essential for lifetime extension of the plant, upholding of the Safety Case, operability of the plant, and generating capacity of the plant.
Hartlepool & Heysham 1 Boiler Closure Units Recovery Programme.
Engineering and implementing the removal of the first Load Transfer Shoe in a BCU to demonstrate the feasibility and plant challenges which become a fundamental step in the planning for ultimate recovery of the BCU’s. Alba senior engineer returned in July 2008 to assume responsibility for the ongoing removal and subsequent re-installation of the LTS’s, together with overall responsibility for installation of the External Steelwork Restraints to complete the BCU rebuild programmes across the 4 reactors.
Hunterston B & Hinkley Point B Gas Circulator Rotor Recovery Programme
Alba managed the implementation of the rewinding of GC rotors with demanding timescales to meet the approaching Stat. Outages at both locations. This was delivered successfully and BE now have a comfortable programme of works to rewind all rotors for both sites over the next 3 years.
